So as of yesterday I am officially finally done with stupid embryology, at least until the next round in med school, and the most important part of that sentence is that I am going to med school. I am going to med school. This June, I will be wearing all white, if the uniforms arrive on time, but whatever, that's not my problem, not yet.
The second most important part of that sentence up there is that I am on vacation, which means that I have the time to find out things like Susan Cooper did not make up the above verse for The Dark is Rising, which really should not have surprised me as much as it did. I only found out that there was an entire thing for me to have read today. I am the womb of every holt. I am the blaze on every hill. I am the queen of every hive. I am the shield for every head. I am the tomb of every hope. Eirias. And Will's piano teacher Mrs. Cooper in His Dark Materials is a reference to Susan Cooper, which almost makes me want to forgive Philip Pullman for his occasional utter stupidity. And of course Gwyddno Garanhir was a real person, the same way King Arthur was a real person, but his land was Merionedd, where the Maddox family (A Swiftly Tilting Planet) came from-
