fireworks
A Belated Happy New Year to all of you! This post is extremely late in coming, due to the lack of decent Internet connections in Calasiao, Pangasinan, and the earthquake in Taiwan which led to Internet problems.
Well. I started the year right, with lots of fireworks, the class of 2-Champaca, Guia's birthday, and lots of perios.
And classes resumed on the third! I traveled to Manila on the second, and arrived at around nine, and was still able to create a story for English from scratch!
That's a new cramming record for me, and if I had a choice I wouldn't have crammed it, but hey, I can be proud of this ability I hardly ever practice and still works.
Or maybe that just means I can write well. Haha. Asa pa ako.
And yes, I missed Champaca, and I especially missed the arguments that come with it.
I made four New Year's Resolutions. One of them was not to hit anyone, and another was not to threaten to kill anyone. Within this first week, I've broken those two, and mostly on the same person, if he is a person.
And yes, it was Guia's birthday today!!!! Happy birthday to my best friend, Ad of JoMiKeAdDaAn, if you're reading this! I hope you liked the gift, and read the letter.
And a mircle happened during my practical test in basketball: I WAS ABLE TO SHOOT THE BALL!!!!!!!!
Just once, that's true, but I was able to shoot it. No one could believe it. It wasn't like the English, since only I didn't believe that. This was beyond the realm of possibility, like scoring a 1.00 in my Algebra card grade this quarter, considering my last quarter's grade was 2.00...
And too bad Saddam had to be executed. The date chosen for the execution wasn't exactly too nice as well. It was to signify the beginning of a holiday of peace. But hey, if you shouldn't kill someone on a holiday, why kill them on any ordinary day?
Ewan. It's like executing GMA on Christmas.
Which I wouldn't object to, so I'm being a total hypocrite here.
By the way, my third resolution was to stop being a hypocrite, so I guess I broke that too.
And pinagtripan ako ng mga YMSAT group mates ko. Nakasulat sa folder namin sa napakalaking sulat (I can't think of a Filipino synonym of sulat, so I just repeated the word):
TEAM CHAMPION: JILLIAN FRANCISE ATIENZA LEE.
But I don't care, because classes have resumed, and I was able to shoot a basketball.

Ang saya ng New Year ko!
We had a small dinner party in Calasiao, just the family, and all the while I was writing my Envi. Sci. essay. I shall not use the term cramming, since many will disagree with me, since many have not done their essays yet, even as of now. And it was fun, seeing as I haven't seen the father's side of my family-the side that lives in Pangasinan- all together for over a year.
And one of my uncles had a large shipment of fireworks, probably bought from whoever he buys pirated DVDs from, since they, too, have "Made in China" written all over them.
And the fireworks are cute!
Whistle bombs exploded in the air, and dancing dragons scurried around the gardens like rats, showing a resemblance to my Maltese Marvin when he was still a puppy. And my brother and I played with sparklers. And fountain-type fireworks-rockets, Catherine wheels, and the like- showered over the night sky; they could be viewed from Dagupan. Even my old school released some.
They bring lots of pollution, though. (Envi. Sci. mode!!!)
The normally clear night sky was clouded with smoke, and the curious odor of gunpowder lingered in the air, a delicate, haunting miasma.
I like that odor, and I like fireworks, and I like things that burn. Call me a pyromaniac if you will, but I like them.

Well. I wasn't entirely happy with my perios' results, but many were well enough.
Physics- 40 out of 50-low for my standards. My first quarter perio was 50, my second was 45, and now it's 40. I hope this isn't a trend, or, if it is, that this is the low point and my grades will go back up again. Like a parabola, if my grades can be computed using a quadratic function.
Chem.-39 out of 45-yet another score some consider high but I consider low.
Geom.-32 out of 40. This was okay, and at least I got a sticker! (Aside: Sir Mardan gave all his students Christmas gifts: stickers!!!! He usually gives stickers to those who score high in the long tests and perios... Now everyone has one. =>)
Val. Ed.-I forgot, but low. Or maybe I didn't forget but I just don't want to say what it is.
And obviously, I'm saving the best for last....
Filipino- 70 out of 70! Tama ba yun? Perfect ako sa Filipino? Actually, ngayon lang ako naka-perfect sa Fil.-earlier this year over-perfect ako sa perio, and otherwise I was very, very far from perfect, and very, very near failing. Well, not exactly. Maybe around the 1.5 or 1.75 level.
Tricia, Chii, and I were very amused with our scores. Chii got 73, and Tricia got 72, and, as has been said, I got 70. Kulang lang ng 74 at 71.
Algeb.- 74 out of 80!
Kanina lang na-announce... Sinabi ni August na madaya ako... I threatened to kill him, and that was how I broke my second resolution...
Bio.- 63 out of 70!
Physics, Bio., and Val. Ed. were on the same day, and I concentrated on Bio.. Seems like it paid off, and I didn't fail in any of them. People actually say my scores are high. Nevermind. I'm sounding too arrogant.
English- 95 out of 100!
I didn't expect this.
I was talking to August when this was announced, and he was annoyed since my score was higher than his. But I think I was more disbelieving than he was. I seriously didn't expect to score so high.
A snippet of conversation:
August: Remove that from my sight; I don't want to see it!
Me: I don't suppose you want to know that I slept through this one as well?
Him: No, I don't.
I didn't exactly sleep through the entire thing... Just a bit... I slept late the night before, since I was studying for Chem.... And, ironically, I didn't score well on that...
