It's hard to tell how time passes, until you reach an old marker- a special date, a solid memory- and realise how much you have changed. Sometimes you notice that some things- your addiction to books, your hatred for all things slimy, your tendency to write late into the night regardless of the time- had never changed over the years. Sometimes you can point out small alterations- a project you would have done ahead of time you crammed, a lie you never would have told you used for convenience. And sometimes you look at yourself in a mirror and at yourself in a picture and you see no resemblance, and you old ideals have gone and your old dreams have withered and you wonder when you grew old.
