Albion!!! the letter begins. I never liked using “Dear” to begin my letters.

I am writing this e-mail in the Other House, for two major reasons. The first is that the WiFi insists on not being accessible from my house. The second is that the office stinks. Okay, I grant you, stinks isn’t the best word in the English dictionary, but I can’t think of another word for the combined odors of cigarette smoke and mosquito repellent. Can you?

I thought so.

It goes on. I never notice when I start rambling.

They have started again. It’s weird. I never expected them to- I thought everything that had happened had quashed them out for good. I saw the bruises yesterday morning. I guess I was wrong.

I didn’t know how wrong I was till a while ago, though. My mom is busy scrounging up a rational explanation. But Marvin’s injuries are giving her a hell of a hard time. We had to call the vet. He’s now hooked up to an IV. Did you know that we once had a dog that jumped into our swimming pool- before it contained water? The workers ended up eating it. Dad reminded us a while ago, and I couldn’t help laughing. Really laughing. Probably in an attempt to forget everything, and probably that was his intention. But still.

At the end of the e-mail, I was stuck. It was five pages long. I guess overestimating Albion’s patience was another something I never noticed till it was too late. I had no idea how to end letters, either, especially when they were five pages long. I usually just put my name, but for five pages of nonsense it seemed an inadequate ending. Love was an easy word to throw around when it didn’t mean anything- scribbling “Love, Ren” on a Christmas card to a relative I barely knew didn’t require a second thought.

I stared at the computer screen for just a while more, and then deleted the e-mail.
