Nov. 7th, 2009 05:51 pmThis is what I loved about Alcina: that everywhere you went, from the schools to the shops to the Purloined Pepper, there was always an undercurrent of revolution. It said, we're not satisfied with you. It said, we want change. And though, I grant you, screaming for change without saying what you want changed and what you wanted it changed into is, was, and probably always will be completely pointless, and though the President was probably the best president a country could ever ask for, it was a nice change. Loud music and kids talking revolution in cafes beat apathy any day.
Music and revolution were probably why Alcina fell, but that's okay. Better to fall in an attempt to go right gone wrong than in an attempt to go wrong gone right.

Lia- this bit is just for you, Majesty, by the way, though if they want to read it I guess there isn't much I can do about it, and anyway it doesn't really matter- Lia will not die. This isn't just another one of my "they say"s, product of the Alcina Rumor Mill, Incorporated. Once in a while there is a sudden upheaval of magic and because magic has its own mind, sort of, it all goes into one person, and that person never dies. The universe can't risk it. If all of a sudden all that magic goes kaboom the worlds will go crazy trying to balance it. It's happened. It resulted in a bunch of desperate professors and kings teaming up and creating you. If the Council- if anyone- had a way of preventing all that magic from clusteriing up in one body they would, if only out of self-preservation, but they don't.
Merlin. Blaise. Maria. Queen Vethil Caramden Isteriol. Thaeron the Mad. Bernardo of Carpio. There was a lot of magic knocking around, in the old days. And Lia, now. They will never die. Three of them are insane, one of them is on the Council, one of them has been moving from world to world for the past few centuries, teaching, one of them is chained up in a cave till the time comes that he has to save his country. The last, the newest, is too young to go mad, and too driven to flee, and if anyone in the world can be trusted with all that magic it's Lia.
But damn, if there's a fate worse than death that would be it.
