river in Egypt, river in Egypt.
Apr. 25th, 2011 04:47 pmThe only thing better than watching the North London derby at two in the morning, and then going straight to the Copa del Rey right after? Rewatching the matches at ten at night with the parents, complete with running commentary on the calls, the fouls, the goals, the ears of Gareth Bale, the grass, and the aesthetics of Cristiano Ronaldo. Sometimes I feel like the only person in the world who has to acknowledge the aesthetics of Cristiano Ronaldo, but who really cannot see it.
Also, the North London derby is a thing of brilliance. Well, except for the final scoreline. You can watch it forever, or at least for longer than the Copa.
Apparently the way to not talk about Arsenal is to talk about Arsenal.
---
Look, I am not in denial about Arsenal. I am the unbearable optimist, but I'm not in denial. Just that I don't want to go around shouting, hey, we're as good as out of the title race, you know, exactly like everyone said we would be.
Just that consensus is it's been a crazy season all around, and Arsenal don't have drama but they have moments*, and the season's not over yet.
(This is why I never win at poker, but I think I've found my soul mate.)
*I mean, truth universally acknowledged, our back line is about as impenetrable as the lining of an intestine. We've conceded 36 goals all season, which is good enough to rank in the Premier League's top 5 best defences, but the problem is that when we concede goals they are the sort of goals that You Do Not Concede. If they are from penalties, they are the sort of penalties that You Should Not Have Let Happen In The First Place. When we concede goals it's the stuff of blooper reels.
